AI Background Remover

Remove image backgrounds in 6 seconds. Powered by BRIA RMBG 2.0, the 2026 SOTA model. Free credit on signup, no card, no watermark, full commercial license.

The 2026 background-remover landscape

Most online background removers — remove.bg, Photoroom, Pixelcut, Canva — were built before 2024. They use binary alpha masks (each pixel is either 100% kept or 100% removed). That works fine for cardboard products on solid backgrounds. It fails the moment you try to cut out hair, fur, glass, jewelry chains, transparent packaging, smoke, ice, or any reflective metal — the soft edges turn into hard halos and detail dies.

BRIA RMBG 2.0, released in early 2026 and the model Palmou AI uses for every cutout, was the first commercially licensed model with a 256-level alpha channel. Each output pixel carries a transparency value from 0 to 255 instead of just 0 or 1. The practical result: hair stays wispy, jewelry chains stay continuous, glass stays glass, and chrome reflections stay partially transparent the way they do in real life.

What you get on the free tier

  • 1 free credit on signup with Google. No card.
  • Full source resolution preserved (4K source → 4K cutout).
  • WebP output by default; PNG for transparency-required workflows.
  • No watermark on any plan, including the free tier.
  • Full commercial license — Amazon, Shopify, Etsy, ads, print.
  • EU data residency (Supabase EU). Images never used for training.

When to use Palmou AI vs the alternatives

Use Palmou AI when single-image fidelity matters more than batch volume — fine jewelry, watches, sneakers, cosmetics, glass, transparent packaging, hair-heavy products, reflective electronics. The 256-level alpha is the difference between a usable cutout and a Photoshop touch-up job.

Use Photoroom when you need a mobile app, a native Shopify integration, and you process hundreds of SKUs per week from a phone. Their pipeline is broader; ours is sharper.

Use remove.bg when you need a one-shot free cutout with no signup and you don't care about watermarks on full-resolution downloads. They're the original; we're the 2026 successor.

Beyond background removal

The same credit that buys you a cutout can also generate a new scene around your product — Google Gemini 2.5 Flash Image composes a new background that adapts lighting and shadow to your product's actual shape. Pick from six curated scenes (White Studio, Premium Beige, Nature, Luxury Marble, Urban, Gradient). Total time end-to-end: under 15 seconds.

Frequently asked questions

Is the AI background remover free?
Yes. You get 1 free credit on signup with Google, no card required. One credit removes the background from one image at full source resolution with no watermark and full commercial license. After that, plans start at $19/month for 100 credits.
How is this different from remove.bg or Photoroom?
Palmou AI uses BRIA RMBG 2.0, a 2026 model with a 256-level alpha channel. Most competitors (remove.bg, Photoroom in-house, Pixelcut) still ship binary or low-bit alpha masks, which destroy soft transitions on hair, fur, glass edges, jewelry chains, knitwear, smoke, and reflective metals. BRIA preserves those details. We also process at native source resolution — a 4K input stays 4K out, no upscaling tricks.
What image formats and sizes are supported?
JPG, PNG, and WebP up to 10 MB. Minimum dimension 100 px, maximum 4096 px on each side. Output is WebP (quality 92) by default to keep file size small while preserving alpha. PNG output is used when transparency is needed for compositing.
Can I use the output commercially?
Yes, on every plan including the free tier. Full commercial license — Amazon listings, Shopify product pages, Etsy listings, ads on Meta or TikTok, print catalogs, billboards, anywhere. No attribution required.
Does it work on hair, fur, glass, and reflective products?
This is the use case we built around. BRIA RMBG 2.0's 256-level alpha channel models partial transparency — instead of treating each pixel as either fully background or fully foreground, it captures the in-between values that make hair, fur, glass edges, and metallic highlights look natural in the cutout.
How fast is it?
About 6 seconds end-to-end including upload. BRIA runs synchronously inside our serverless function with a warm-keep cron (the model is hit every 4 minutes by GitHub Actions to avoid cold-start latency).
Is there an API?
Yes, on the Agency plan ($99/month). REST API at /api/v1/images, two endpoints: POST to submit a job, GET to poll status. Bearer token authentication, 60 requests/minute per key. Full reference at palmou.com/docs/api.
Where is the data stored?
Supabase EU region, encrypted at rest. Images are never used for AI training. You can delete any image from your gallery at any time, or request a full GDPR data export from /billing.
